Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.  Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.  Praise ye the Lord!

The Word on Music

Psalm 144:9 &10…

Here, David is praising God for His giving wisdom in warfare and for being his fortress and deliverer (vs. 1 & 2). And he is asking Him again to display His presence once again (vs. 5).

Then in verse 9 David says, "…I will sing a new song unto You, oh God, upon an…instrument of…strings will I sing praises unto you."

The Emphasized Bible by J. B. Rotherham says, "On a harp of …strings will I make music unto Thee."

In context, almost as if David was saying for every new victory and display of Your deliverance I will sing a new song unto You, O Lord.

God loves music. And He loves for His people to make music to Him. I was so impressed in 1995 when I heard Will McFarlane say that he had learned that his most important music was to an audience of One. I’m trying to learn that.

Then in verse ten, David says, "It is He (Jehovah) that gives salvation unto kings and delivers David, His servant, from the hurtful sword."

It is amazing in the Word, and in life, to see how praise precedes the display of God’s power.

"I will sing a new song unto You, oh God, upon an…instrument of…strings will I sing praises unto you. It is He (Jehovah) that gives salvation unto kings and delivers David, His servant, from the hurtful sword."
